Sydney World Cup hero Greg Bennett and former world champion Jackie Gallagher will head a talented field of contenders for the Australian Triathlon Championships at Mooloolaba tomorrow.

Defending Australian title-holder Bennett, who is in sensational form following his win at the Triathlon World Cup in Sydney last weekend, will start favourite for the event.

The St George national titles are the number one event on the national calendar and the race will also feature former world champions and 1999 Japan World Cup winners Greg Welch (Ishigaki Island) and Chris McCormack (Gamagori).

New Zealand's Hamish Carter, who is currently ranked number one in the world, would love to take home the Aussie crown.

In the women's event, Gallagher will face a determined Joanne King who is backing up after her second place at the Australian Ironman last weekend.

King, the current world champion, withdrew from the event last year following a cycle mishap.

Rina Hill, who finished fifth at last weekend's World Cup in Sydney, is hungry for her first national triathlon distance title.
