International Sailing Federation vice-president David Kellett was in hospital last night after being injured during the Sydney to Mooloolaba ocean race.

Kellett, the skipper of 60-footer Sydney, was hurled forward through the cabin when the yacht crashed into a submerged rock near Port Stephens.

One of Australia's most experienced ocean-racing sailing masters, Kellett suffered a fractured vertebra but was reported in a satisfactory condition in the John Hunter Hospital at Newcastle.
