TOBIN SHINES
SWANSEA-Belmont surf lifesaving junior Greg Tobin is following in older brother Adrian's footsteps with some good efforts in the national surf league under-16 ironman event.
Tobin won his semi-final on Saturday at Mooloolaba then took fifth place in the final.
It was an outstanding showing from NSW to take out the top six places in the event.
GIRLS TAKE OFF
ABOUT 100 female competitors flocked to Dixon Park Beach over the weekend to take part in the Rip Curl Girl Go Surfing Day.
All ages and abilities were catered for in the nationwide initiative, with qualified instructors teaching water safety and basic surfing skills over the two days. AUSSIES SOAR
NORTHERN NSW representatives Meegan Shepherd and Tracey Oldham were part of the history-making Australian schoolgirls side who proved too strong for New Zealand and Tahiti.
Australia played five games in nine days to win the Tri-Nations tournament this month.
In the five games Australia scored 20 goals and conceded only two.
SMITH RIDES HIGH
MOUNT Hutton Pony Club member Libby Smith claimed her first national title with a great finish in the pre-novice three-day event at Berrima last month.
Smith was in fifth place after the first day but a brilliant showjumping effort on the last day secured the national title.
